Trenchless Pipelining is a sewer pipe repair process that involves cleaning out a sewer line and installing an epoxy lining that seals the entire inside of the pipe which prevents leaking, keeps storm water out of the pipe, and stops roots from growing into the pipe. All of this is done through an access point so a trench does not need to be dug to access and replace the sewer line. The process has been third party verified to last a minimum of 50 years and is much less expensive than digging up a sewer line.

All in all there are over 100 steps that requires a crew of 3-4 plumbers a half day of prep, a full day of installation, and a partial day of examination. But here is a brief overview:

Everything starts with a visual inspection using a sewer camera.
Then roots and debris are cleaned out of the pipe and the sewer line is pressure washed from the inside.

After this, the pipe liner is prepared with special epoxies.
Using state of the art tools and equipment, the liner is maneuvered into the pipe where it is pressurized and then steam cured.
The equipment is removed and a visual camera inspection is done to confirm everything is perfectly sealed.

The cost depends on a number of factors, primarily the length of pipe that needs lined. Other variables can include how easy the pipe is to navigate, the condition of the pipe and how much clearing or cleaning is needed, the nearest access point and what is needed to get the equipment in position. On average, trenchless pipelining costs about half as much as digging up a sewer line.

In most situations yes. That is one of the biggest savings that pipelining can provide, saving your driveway, sidewalk, and yard from being broken up and needing replaced or repaired. It can also often prevent you from needing to dig up city sidewalks and streets which can be complicated and expensive.

Relatively few plumbers have the equipment, training, and certification needed to do trenchless pipelining. However, there are legitimate situations where lining is not an option, such as when a sewer line has collapsed.

Usually yes, zero dig pipe repair is a common reference for not needing to dig a trench to repair or replace an old pipe. However, don’t assume that this is always the case. Someone may just clean out your pipe and not install a pipe liner, keep in mind that a clean leaky pipe still leaks. Always confirm that that repair includes the installation of a patented Perma-Liner that has been third party verified to last a minimum of 50 years.

The job can usually be accomplished in one full day of work with a crew of three or four plumbers. However, usually a partial day of preparation is needed before bringing in the equipment and often a third day is needed for local inspectors to come in and verify that the work meets municipal requirements.

In many situations yes, pipelining can be used to preserve your basement floor. In some cases a small access point may need cut into the floor and repaired, but the majority of the floor and the cost needed to dig it up and repair it can be saved.

While there are several ways to get roots out of a sewer pipe, trenchless sewer repair is the only true fix, aside from digging up and replacing the pipe. Even if roots are physically or chemically removed from a pipe, they will still grow back. And even if you remove the roots and cut down the tree, roots can still grow for five years after the tree is cut down. The bigger problem with root removal is that the holes in the sewer pipe are still there and can leak waste out and let water and debris back in.

The simplest way is to get a free evaluation.
If your sewer line is cracked, decayed, rusted through, leaking, or full of roots then trenchless pipelining is likely your most cost effective solution.
If your sewer line is crushed or collapsed then you will likely need to excavate and replace part of it, but pipelining is often the best solution when this is not the case.
If your sewer line is leaking and you need to sell your house then trenchless pipelining is also likely your fastest and most cost effective option.

Trenchless pipelining is very safe, in fact it is safer than digging up a sewer line because the ground has already settled and is not disturbed by the lining process. There is no risk of your yard, home, sidewalk, driveway, or even foundation shifting or being effected by the pipelining process. Plus, with trenchless pipelining there is no risk of cracking a pipe, putting tension on a pipe, or messing up the slope of a sewer pipe when backfilling that you could experience when digging up a sewer line.

There are occasions where home owners insurance does cover a portion of the cost for sewer repairs, and there are certain kinds of coverage that some home owners can obtain to defray the cost of sewer repairs. But whether you have coverage or not, trenchless pipe repair usually costs around half as much as digging up sewer lines for repairs, so your claim and/or out of pocket expenses can be much less.
