Plumbing & Sewer Excavation Done Cleanly and Safely

While trenchless methods solve many problems, some repairs still require excavation. John Shelton Plumbing provides careful, well-planned plumbing and sewer excavation for homes and businesses throughout the Alle-Kiski Valley. We focus on safety, accuracy, and neat restoration—so you get durable results and minimal disruption to your property.

When Excavation Is the Right Choice

  • Collapsed or severely offset pipes: Sections that can’t accept a liner or spot repair.
  • Non-trenchless segments: Shallow lines, complex tie-ins, or materials not suitable for lining.
  • Service replacements & upgrades: New Water Service Installation or Gas Service Installation.
  • Structure or grade issues: Re-pitching lines or correcting improper slopes.

Our Excavation Process

1) Locate & Verify

We use Electronic Line Locating and camera inspection to confirm the exact problem and dig only where needed. Accurate mapping means smaller trenches and fewer surprises.

2) Safe, Controlled Digging

Our trained crew secures the work area, protects landscaping and hardscape, and digs with care around utilities. We stage spoils neatly to keep your site as accessible as possible during the work.

3) Code-Compliant Repair or Replacement

We replace damaged sections with approved materials, correct grades, and install cleanouts or access points as needed for future maintenance. Connections are made to manufacturer specs and local code.

4) Backfill & Surface Restoration

Once the repair is complete, we compact backfill in lifts and restore the surface as neatly as possible. If additional restoration is desired (concrete, pavers, landscaping), we review options in advance.

Excavation vs. Trenchless

Whenever possible, we evaluate no-dig options like Trenchless Pipe Lining and Brush Coating. When a dig is the better long-term fix—due to collapses, severe offsets, or complex connections—we plan a clean, efficient excavation focused on durability and future serviceability.

What to Expect During the Project

  • Clear schedule and scope before we begin
  • Protection of walkways, plantings, and adjacent work areas
  • Daily site cleanup and communication
  • Final testing and homeowner walk-through

FAQs:

How long does an excavation project take?

Most residential repairs are completed in one to three days, depending on depth, soil conditions, and restoration needs. We provide a clear timeline before starting.

Will you restore my yard or driveway afterward?

Yes. We backfill carefully and can restore grass, soil, or hard surfaces as part of the project. We discuss restoration options upfront before any digging begins.

Can trenchless methods still work for part of my line?

Often yes. We combine excavation for damaged sections with Trenchless Pipe Lining for remaining runs to minimize digging and cost.
